Macca: It’s now or never

6. december 2018

En (tidligere?) medblogger gjorde mig i dag opmærksom på en gammel opsamlingsplade, som New Musical Express engang udsendte med titlen The Last Temptation of Elvis. Den består af lutter fortolkninger af Elvissange fra andre kunstnere, fra Bruce Springsteen over Paul McCartney til the Pogues. Jeg kender ikke pladen, men lidt research afslører, at Paul McCartney fortolker “It’s now or never” – og den version mindes jeg aldrig at have hørt. Værsgo her er den så.

Julebudskab med Cat Power

5. december 2018

All you need is love, som Beatles gentog.

5. december 2018

I’ll be honest with you – I was proud of the fact that a Leicester lad stopped the mighty Beatles, who I adore, with a song that came from Nashville. It stopped them having their 13th number one – unlucky for them, but lucky for me. I love all the Beatles, but I’ve only met Paul and Ringo. [Engelbert Humperdinck til The Guardian]

As “The Village Green Preservation Society” is supposed to be about things I want to preserve, I thought I would try that song. I believe it was Napoleon who said the English were a nation of shop keepers. I’ve never had one, but I would like to one day. I grew up in a street full of little shops, and we could get to know the shop keepers. It must be tough these days to have a little shop. The big chain stores are taking up all the space.

Om computere og sikkerhedsbælter

3. december 2018
Riding along in my automobile
My baby beside me at the wheel
I stole a kiss at the turn of a mile
My curiosity runnin’ wild
Crusin’ and playin’ the radio
With no particular place to go
Riding along in my automobile
I was anxious to tell her the way I feel
So I told her softly and sincere
And she leaned and whispered in my ear
Cuddlin’ more and drivin’ slow
With no particular place to go
No particular place to go
So we parked way out on the Kokomo
The night was young and the moon was gold
So we both decided to take a stroll
Can you image the way I felt
I couldn’t unfasten her safety belt
Ridin’ along in my calaboose
Still trying to get her belt a-loose
All the way home I held a grudge
For the safety belt that wouldn’t budge
Crusin’ and playin’ the radio
With no particular place to go

All the way home I held a grudge
For the safety belt that wouldn’t budge….
