Spot på: Courettes

Jeg fik ikke engang omtalt Spot-festivalen, der er løbet hen over aarhusianske scener. Og selvfølgelig – !! – gik jeg glip af en masse, god moderne musik. Fx den dansk-brazilianske combo Courettes, der dyrker en rigtig beskidt garagerock med fed fuzzguitar og trommer, der pisker derudaf. Go, go, go…

Et anerkendende skulderklap fra Grace Slick til Pink…

I den nye Disney-film Alice through the lookin glass fortolker sangerinden Pink det gamle Jefferson Airplane-nummer “White Rabbit”. Og Airplanes sangerinde Grace Slick kan godt lide Pinks udgave. Til Wall Street Journal siger hun, at Pink har stemmekraft – og det er det, det drejer sig om for Slick: “Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of versions of the song where singers don’t have the attitude or vocal force you need on it. Pink knows how to sing.”

Internettet stjal musikken – eller gjorde det?

Først en svada fra forsangeren Roger Daltrey of the Who:

You said in the past that Pete has hundreds of songs that could be recorded. Would you ever make another Who record?
We’ve talked about it, but it’s not going to be easy. There’s no record industry anymore. Why would I make a record? I would have to pay to make a record. There’s no royalties so I can’t see that ever happening. There’s no record business. How do you get the money to make the records? I don’t know. I’m certainly not going to pay money to give my music away free. I can’t afford to do that. I’ve got other things I could waste the money on.

Well, the music industry is constantly changing.
Well, it’s been stolen. The way the Internet has come about has been the biggest robbery in history, like musicians should work for nothing.

Artists get paid for streaming, but not like they did for albums.
You’re joking. You get paid for streaming, my ass. There’s no control. Musicians are getting robbed every day. And now it’s creeping into film and television, everything now. You notice, the Internet is a slowly but surely destructive thing in all ways. I don’t think it’s improved people’s lives. It’s just made them do more work and feel like they’re wanted a bit more, but it’s all bollocks. They feel like they’re wanted because they got 50,000 Facebook likes or whatever, and it’s all bollocks. It’s all rubbish [laughs]. Look up for a while. Live in the real world.

Er internettet skurken? Nej, internettet er det nye medie – hvis der er skurke, så er det netop den “musikindustri”, som Daltrey mener er forsvundet. Og jeg mener, at den gamle forsanger går helt galt i byen på et punkt: Han fremstiller musikindustrien som en forudsætning for at lave musik og indspille plader. Det er grundliggende  forkert. Man skaber musik for sig selv og sit publikum. Og det er vigtigt at holde fast i – og det gør mange nye kunstnere, fx alle dem, der har fundet ud af at crowd-funde deres musik. Hvis man læner sit hoved op ad en udbyttende musikindustri, sådan som Roger gør, så har man virkelig ikke fattet noget af det fundamentale i musikken og økonomien. I stedet for at blive et gammelt bagstræberisk, teknologifjendtlig fjols, burde Roger Daltrey vågne op til de nye betingelser. Fortsætte med at lave musik på plade – vinyl, cd osv. – af hensyn til Whos mange fans og så i øvrigt tjene til dagen og vejen ved koncerter med skyhøje billetpriser. Kom i gang Roger.
