Robbie Robertson om musikbranchens nye ‘modeller’

Vi har været inde på temaet før: Internettets og digitaliseringen effekt på musikbranchen. Faldende pladesalg – og hvad gør vi for at sikre kunstnerne et fair afkast af deres kreative udfoldelser. Der er ingen nemme løsninger, tror jeg. Man må se realiteterne i øjenene, droppe den bagstræberiske, rygmarvsbestemte tænkemåde og prøve sig frem med nye ideer og tanker. En af dem er – som bekendt – at udsende musik i lækre boksudgaver med alskens tilbehør. Tendens er klar: Mange udsender deres ny plader i både standardudgaver og så dem, hvor der følger DVD’er og andet med.

The Bands Robbie Robertson udsender snart en luksusudgave af sit seneste album “How To Become Clairvoyant”, indeholdende to CD’er, tre 180 grams vinyl LP’er, en DVD, en kunstbog, otte tarot kort og fem litografier med eksklusiv kunst af kunstneren Richard Prince og fotografen Anton Corbijn. Om det luksuøse projekt siger Robertson:
What’s really encouraging in that area, for me, is that I’ve never done anything quite like this before — I’m not sure anybody has, come to think about it — just putting this kind of art and this kind of music all together. But what’s really encouraging is it is an example of the new model. And in music, for so many years now, ever since the internet and the bottom fell out, there’s been this view of the music business … that it’s dead, it’s a thing of the past and stuff like that. Which is absolutely not true and never will be. There are some things that we used to be able to do, that we don’t anymore but this is something we were never able to do. And that’s why I refer to it as part of the new model. And I like the idea of presenting something that really does have a fresh spin on it. It could be encouraging for artists. I mean, it’s for a particular kind of recording artist. It’s not just an across-the-board thing.”

Måske har han ret, måske ikke. Men det er vel et forsøg værd?!
