Der er ingen ende på The Beatles: De første indspilninger i ny indpakning

Vi skal helt tilbage til 1961 og 1962 for at finde de første indspilninger, som George Harrison, Paul McCartney, John Lennon og Pete Best, foretog sammen med Tony Sheridan. I Hamburgs Friedrich-Ebert-Halle og Studio Rahlstedt blev de ialt otte indspilninger – med Bert Kaempfert som producer – lagt ned i rillerne.
Siden blev Beatles berømte – og indspilningerne med Sheridan er blevet udgivet i flere mere eller mindre obskure udgaver. Da Beatles udgave deres Anthology vol. 1 blev optagelserne for alvor indlemmet i gruppens officielle opus. Det var i 1998. Tre år senere kanoniserede nostalgiforlaget Bear Family Records samarbejdet mellem Beatles og Sheridan i den luksuøse udgivelse Beatles Bop – Hamburg Days, hvor de oprindelige otte indspilninger svulmede op til ialt 38, hvor alle alternative mix var inkluderet. Og det hele blev suppleret med en 120 sider lang bog, der fortalte om tiden dengang i Hamborg.
Man skulle tro, at der dermed var rettet op på de foregående års til tider lemfældige omgang Beatles formative år. Men i anledning af gruppens 50-års jubilæum udsender Time-Life First Recordings: 50th Anniversary Edition, der rummer de 34 optagelser, hvor Beatles faktisk er med (og udelader dem, hvor Sheridan optræder med anden backing). Oven i købet rummer dobbelt-CD’en en bog, der skulle vise sjældne fotos – bl.a. af Astrid Kirchherr – og memorabilia i facsimilegengivelse. Så hvis man ikke allerede har forkøbt sig på disse indspilninger, så er der endnu en anledning til at lette tegnebogen.
