Dusty Springfield i boksen…

For ikke så forfærdelig længe siden købte jeg (endnu) et bokssæt. Nemlig The Doors. A Collection (2011). Det er langt fra den første boks med The Doors. I 2007 kom Perception, Rhinos voluminøse 12-cd-store boks i anledning af gruppens 40-års-jubilæum.. I 2008 kom Doors Box, der også består af 12 CD’er. året før kom The Doors Box Set (4 CD’er). Og dertil skal lægges strømmen af opsamlinger.
Hvad der tiltalte mig ved A Collection var – ud over en overkommelig pris – at der var tale om en no-bullshit-samling af gruppens seks officielle studioalbums i den lydforbedrede udgave fra Perception-projektet. Ikke noget med ‘sjældne’ optagelser, bonusnumre, alternative versioner osv. Bare den rene vare….
Vi lever i en tid, hvor bokssæt er en af de veje, pladeindustrien følger for at genvinde noget af det tabte terræn på markedet. Og flere af disse bokssæt lider af, hvad man kunne kalde ukritisk over-kill. Bare fordi noget er alternative optagelser, outtakes osv., så behøver det jo ikke at være værd at lægge øre til. Den kritiske redaktør er ofte savnet, når de oppulente bokse bliver sat sammen.
Og det kommende store bokssæt med Dusty Springfield – Goin’ Back: The Definitive Dusty Springfield – lider af denne skavank, ved jeg ikke. Jeg håber det ikke, for Dusty Springfield er en kunstner, der fortjener at få et opdateret bokssæt med stil. Bokssættet er ‘super deluxe’. Fire CD’er, tre DVD’er og hele to indbundne bøger. Mindre kan åbenbart ikke gøre det.
92 skæringer, hvoraf de 22 er hidtil uudgivne numre. 98 videoer, hvoraf de 32 for første gang kan ses på DVD. Det er en udgivelse for Dusty-die-hards...
Heldigvis har forlaget også fået den gode idé at lave en mainstreamboks – The Magic of Dusty Springfield – bestående af “kun” 3 CD’er (1,2 og 4 på listen nedenfor ) og 1 DVD. Til gengæld er prisen kun en tredjedel af superdeluxeudgaven.
Det er ikke første gang Dusty Springfield kommer i bokssæt. For nogle år siden kom The Legend of Dusty Springfield, der lige som den nye var tematisk opbygget, og det bliver nok heller ikke det sidste. Der er allerede tale om at lave et ultimativt bokssæt med hendes komplette produktion. Den kan man godt grue for…
