Back to Mono: The Kinks

Jeg ved ikke, om man kan tale om en Kinks-revival. Men faktum er, at gruppens udgivelser i disse år kommer i gode, lydforbedrede udgaver til glæde for gamle fans – og dem, der har fået ørerne op for gruppens storhed.
Flere af gruppens album – bl.a. Something Else og Arthur – er allerede kommet i såkaldte Deluxe-udgaver med såvel stereo- som monoudgaver med mere. Og nu meddeler bagmændende, at man også – i næste måned – vil udsende et bokssæt med den rene vare, Kinks in Mono. For sandheden er jo, at Kinks, som andre af tressernes beatkoryfæer, udsendte og tænkte deres musik i mono. Beatles har allerede fået deres monoboks. Og Bob Dylan har også fået en boks med ren mono udsendt. Og som jeg tidligere har været inde på her i bloggen, så handler det ikke bare om nostalgi (sådan lød det dengang, jeg var ung…), men om æstetik og autenticitet. Stereo var et teknologisk fremskridt, men ikke nødvendigvis et musikalsk fremskridt. Lidt hårdt sat op, så er livemusik mono – og derfor er det nærliggende, at også indspilninger skal være det…
For Kinkomaner er det kommende boksæt interessant, fordi den ikke blot indeholder bandets monoalbum, men også de singler og EP’er, der ikke kom med på plade – plus det løse.
Selvfølgelig er det en udgivelse, der især sigter mod inkarnerede fans, der har pladerne i forvejen – og bare ikke kan få nok. Men vi får så også hele baduljen i god lyd, der lyder endnu bedre end dengang, far var dreng…
I forbindelse med bokssættet kommer der også en dobbelt-CD med Dave Davies’ indspilninger Hidden Treasures aka The Lost Album, der skulle indeholde alt, hvad lillebroder Davies lavede, da han var med i gruppen og fra hans parallelle solokarriere. Jo, der er kinky tider, vi oplever…
